Although resin bound and bond surfacing may sound similar, they take on a different appearance and are each used for different purposes:
Resin bound surfacing mixes natural aggregates, marble, or recycled materials with clear resin. Each particle of stone will be covered in resin. The mixture is laid onto a base immediately to create a permeable, smooth finish.
The depth of each resin bound surface is usually between 12mm and 24mm, depending on the type and size of stone used and the application – such as whether it’s for a domestic driveway or a commercial car park. Different stone colours can be used, so there is a wide range of finishes to choose from.
A completed resin bound surface provides a durable, permeable, multi-layer surface, with a smooth finish and no loose stone.
Resin bonded surfacing involves applying a film of resin to a surface before scattering clean, dry aggregate on top to completely cover it. Once the surface is cured, the excess stone is swept up.
Resin bonded surfacing usually requires stone ranging from 1mm to 6mm deep. The impermeable, thin, single stone layer tends to have a more textured finish when compared with a resin bound surface.
